About Us

The 4 Freedom Equestrian Team was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2006 by Leah Edwards of Arcanum, Ohio as a means to show support for the service men and women of the Armed Forces, and to honor the accomplishments and sacrifices of our nation’s veterans. We carry out this mission by several means: through literature and hand-outs educating the public in ways they can help those who have served or are currently serving this country; by performing a uniformed mounted drama at both military and non-military oriented events; providing a mounted Honor Guard for community events; sending care packages and letters to soldiers currently deployed around the world; and by providing “Thank You!” packages to US veterans. All donations made to the team are used for operational and travel expenses, and for the materials needed to support educational programs consistent with our non-profit mission. Our mission is to ensure the courage, sacrifice and accomplishments of those who defend our nation are never forgotten.

The 4 Freedom team continues to play a pivotal part in numerous military and veteran related organizations and events. Among the groups we support are the Yellow Ribbon Support Center, the Freedom Alliance, the Blue Star Mothers of America, the Gold Star Wives of America, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled Veterans of America, the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, just to name a few. We have been successful in our efforts to create and ship care packages to deployed service members, provide lap blankets to wheelchair-bound veterans, and in providing “Thank You!” packages to veterans. In recognition of our support to Native American veterans, Team Captain, Leah Edwards, was made honorary member of the Tall Tree Tribe, Piqua Shawnee Turtle Clan. Additionally we received the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution, awarded to individuals for outstanding achievement in their community. One of the high points for the 4 Freedom Team was being selected to participate in the National Independence Day parade in Washington, D.C. in 2010.

The team consists of riders from the Darke, Miami, Preble, Clinton and Montgomery County areas.  We travel around the Miami Valley and surrounding areas to perform "The Fight for Freedom" drama or stand Honor Guard at festivals, fairs, and other expositions.  The team is dressed in partial military uniforms of the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard with each carrying the respective branch's flag, along with the American flag POW/MIA, Ohio and “Honor and Remember” flags.  Our horses are also tacked in matching colors with their riders uniform.  4 Freedom Equestrian Team's goal is to support and honor the United States military and our veterans and to bring to the public eye a reminder of those who are away from home fighting for our freedom and to say Thank You to those who served in the past.

We firmly believe our community outreach and “Share and Care” programs have a positive impact not only on service members and veterans, but within our communities as we strive to perpetuate and preserve the memory of the veterans of our Armed Forces past, present, and future, highlight the military history of local communities and the state of Ohio while giving the public a better understanding of the Armed Forces in the history of our country, and most importantly, by fostering patriotism and respect for our veteran.

We ask that you take time to pray for our soldiers who are serving overseas and remember our veterans who have served this country throughout history.  Remember, also, the families who are here at home without their loved ones, especially during the Holidays.  We sometimes forget about them when our families are all together and celebrating the freedom that our country has. When it's all because of the men and women who fight for this country and their wives, husbands and children who have to be just as brave and strong and who sometimes pay the ultimate sacrifice just as God did for us when He gave us His Son.
